erage of 15 cows twice a day, “slopped” the hogs, and had quite a few colts to look after. Florence raised chickens. When full grown they were put into canning jars along with the pork that was usually butchered in the early winter months. Cutting up meat, rendering lard, and taking care of the carcasses were all a part of a farmer’s job in those days.

Albert and his brother Bill (who married Hilda Foltz and moved onto the home place in 1927) did much of their farm work together, especially at hay and harvest time. When the threshing crew came to the farm around 1928-1936 the neighbor ladies came to help Florence prepare dinner. Some of those ladies were Minnie Van Vliet, Florence Perry, Hilda Erickson, and Florence's mother, Alice Price. Later in the season they cooked again for silo fillers.

Albert made use of his business education by selling Pioneer seed corn, Hy-line chicks and Norwegian Mutual Insurance. Albert was a Federal Land Bank board member for several years. He was treasurer of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church almost 50 years at the end of which he was awarded a special rosemaled “parking plaque” and a wall plaque which was presented during the church service. He was an ardent follower of North Winneshiek School sports and was presented a lovely black velvet pillow with gold decorations and several sports medals attached for his interest and attendance at various sports events.
